What is mulberry silk?
Mulberry silk is the highest quality silk available, produced by Bombyx mori silkworms that are raised in controlled environments and fed exclusively on mulberry leaves. This controlled diet produces remarkably uniform, long fibers — a single cocoon can yield up to 1,600 meters of continuous silk thread. The result is an exceptionally smooth, strong, and lustrous fabric that feels luxurious against the skin.
Mulberry silk contains 18 amino acids and natural proteins that are beneficial for skin and hair health. The smooth surface reduces friction by up to 43% compared to cotton, which means less sleep creasing on skin, less frizz and breakage for hair, and better moisture retention for skin hydration overnight. Silk is also naturally hypoallergenic, resistant to dust mites, and temperature-regulating — cool in summer and warm in winter.
Silk quality is graded from A to 6A, with 6A being the finest. The weight is measured in momme (a Japanese unit), with higher momme indicating denser, more durable silk. For pillowcases, 19 to 25 momme is the ideal range. At ONDU, Promeed offers 6A-grade mulberry silk at 22 to 25 momme across their full range of pillowcases, sheets, duvet covers, and sleepwear — OEKO-TEX certified to ensure zero harmful chemicals touch your skin during the roughly 2,500 hours a year you spend in bed.
