Can natural fabrics wick moisture like synthetics?
Yes, several natural fibers wick moisture as effectively as — or better than — synthetics. Merino wool is the best-known example; its fibers can absorb up to 30% of their weight in moisture vapor before feeling wet, and they actively transport sweat away from the skin to the outer surface where it evaporates. This is why merino has been used by outdoor athletes and mountaineers for decades.
Bamboo lyocell and Tencel also perform well, wicking moisture through their smooth, hydrophilic fiber structure. Even cotton, when knit into performance-weight fabrics and blended strategically, can move moisture far more effectively than the old "cotton kills" mantra suggests.
The key difference is that natural fibers manage moisture without the odor buildup that plagues polyester. ONDU features brands that harness these natural properties so you can stay dry and fresh without wearing plastic.
