Do natural fabrics stretch enough for activewear?
Natural fibers on their own have varying degrees of stretch — wool and silk have natural elasticity, while cotton and linen are less stretchy in their pure form. However, when blended with a small percentage of elastane (typically 3–8%), natural fabrics gain excellent four-way stretch that rivals conventional synthetic activewear.
Merino wool is a standout because its crimped fiber structure provides inherent stretch and recovery without any synthetic additives. Brands are also innovating with knit constructions that maximize the natural give of cotton and bamboo fibers, creating leggings and tops that move freely with the body.
ONDU features activewear brands that have solved the stretch equation using predominantly natural fibers, proving you do not need to default to polyester or nylon to get performance-level flexibility.
